I love this computer, it is so cute and light weight. So far no complaints.
about six months in, i began experiencing some audio difficulties.while surfing the net, i sometimes would load a page with many images, and if i had music playing, it was complete static until the page finished loading. customer service: i called them about it several times and they weren't a huge help either. it would REFUSE to close down, and even with the alt+ctrl+delete to force end the process, it wouldn't do either. terrible sound, nothing extraordinary. reasons why NOT to buy this laptop.1.
after two weeks of getting the product, the right speakers completely died on me so i was only left with one speaker. i felt as if he treated me like a kid, just because i wasn't exactly "computer smart" and that i sounded like a 12 year old (i'm 18).another time i called, the man just said to do a restore which didn't help either. however, problems soon arose over the next couple of weeks. likewise to loading a youtube video.
when that happened, i had to restart every time, and then it would take FOREVER to do so. didn't help. i had to bring my own speakers to get the right side to work, and even with the speakers on max volume, the sound was still close to nothing compared to other laptop's sound system.2. this occurred after a few ours of starting up the computer. the way this laptop was put together is NOT top notch.
when i first bought the laptop, i absolutely LOVED it. it ranged from 10-30 minutes OR IT WOULDN'T EVEN SHUT DOWN/RESTART. (i hadn't called SONY because it wasn't as big of a deal since i was at university).4. the first man i talked to refused to believe it was the VAIO laptop's fault and insisted i installed a new updated version of firefox (or ie) and repeatedly said it was because of my anti virus and firewall programs. afterward, i began to experience browsing difficulties. do not buy this. the sound system is HORRIBLE.
while it looks pretty and eye-catching, it is NOT EVEN worth the money. so i restarted, nothing happened, and then it would occur again.3. my firefox would freeze up and i'd have to close it, or sometimes that would happen with MSN messenger as well, or say, a program installed on my computer. my warranty has expired and so there's nothing i can really do about it.it has gotten extremely worse lately (i have to restart more than 7 times).
I spoke to three friends who have owned Vaios, and they also experienced catastrophic failure of some kind. Sony Vaio is the absolute worse computer I've ever owned. I've owned many computers--Dell, Macintosh--and never once had a problem. After 14 months the motherboard died, and replacing it cost almost as much as the computer new--$1,300 new, $1,100 for the motherboard. I called Sony and they said there was nothing they would do as it was out of warranty. Vaios may be pretty to look at, but beauty is only skin deep. Do yourself a favor and buy anything but a Sony Vaio.
I'm not saying all the vaois are bad but definitely this one. I read the reviews and ignored the bad ones because there were MANY good ones.
The battery always slips out so unless it's pluged in the vaio tends to completely shut down with a simple movement. I've had this laptop for less than a year and in that time the screen has turned completely black and it sporadically decideds when it would like to start up correctly (or read my hard drive at all).
My warranty will be out in a month and I'm shaking in fear. I have to say that the display button that blacks out the computer is nice as well as the webcam button but these features and the pretty color options aren't worth the trouble.
As soon as I get enough money I'll be getting rid of this one before I run into anymore issues. Well, the good ones belonged to the people who only owned it for a month or less.
Get a different, better model.
The memory was bad and made the system break up. I tried to recover the system with the recovery option but the partition was corrupted so I wasn't able to install. I called Sony support and they didn't help very much.
